It might be the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be the most dangerous. Amid the joy of the season, danger may be lurking behind every reindeer. There is no shortage when it comes to Christmas-related mishaps, and most of the culprits are predictable.
People are wounded by scissors as they try to wrap or unwrap gifts too hastily. Children take falls from their new bikes. Some are stabbed with needles from the Christmas tree. In the kitchen, carelessness results in cuts and scalds while preparing the big feast. Standing on chairs to hang decorations has ended in more than a few spills. There are even reports of injuries caused by gravy as it explodes in the microwave.
One report from the UK’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents says the holidays can see more than 80,000 injuries. These injuries are mostly caused by dangers unique to the Christmas season. It appears we may need to be saved from Christmas itself!
Christmas is a time to celebrate. But in the excitement, use a little caution. Put the toys where they belong, watch your step around the tinsel, and skip the trip to the emergency room. Avoid the Christmas crisis, discover the Christmas Christ, and have a safe holiday season.
